Engineered Wood Siding: A Wood Look Without The Usual Headaches

Engineered wood siding has become a go-to option for Notus, ID homeowners who love the look of traditional wood but would rather skip most of the upkeep. It's manufactured around a resin-treated core that stands up to moisture absorption and swelling far better than solid lumber, but that resistance leans heavily on sealing every cut edge during installation — an exposed raw edge is exactly where moisture eventually finds its way in.

Our crew treats edge sealing as a must-do step on every project, applying manufacturer-approved sealant to every field cut before that piece ever goes up, not just the factory edges that arrive pre-sealed. Fastening follows the manufacturer's exact spacing and placement pattern, since engineered products are pickier about this than solid wood, and getting it wrong can void the material's warranty outright.

Engineered wood siding also tends to hold paint longer than solid wood, since its manufactured surface is more consistent than natural grain, though proper surface prep before any topcoat still matters. For Notus, ID homes chasing a wood look without the same long-term maintenance commitment, this material has become a solid middle-ground choice. After #YEARS years installing engineered wood across the region, our approach stays locked in on the two things manufacturers care about most: sealed edges and correct fastener placement.
